Following a directive from the Board, the GCAA embarked on an ISO 9002–1994 accreditation process in April of 2000.

To facilitate the ISO accreditation/certification process, it was decided to divide the GCAA into 3 departmental areas and gain ISO certification in 3 phases. These areas were:

  • Air Navigation Services
  • Flight Safety Services
  • Administration

Initially a team of 7 GCAA personnel were trained to become ISO internal auditors. This training was completed in December 2000.

In March of 2001 the GCAA,  Air Navigation Services Department was successfully audited and certified to ISO 9002-1994, by SGS Gulf (Societe Generale de Surveillance – Geneva).

Flight Safety Services Department was chosen for the next phase of ISO certification. For this phase it was proposed that the new standard of ISO 9001:2000 was implemented and at the same time, Air Navigation Services would be upgraded and certified to the new standard. This phase began in March 2002 and was successfully completed in November 2002.

The third and last phase required that the Administration & Finance department was certified to ISO 9001:2000. This phase was completed in November 2003.

With the requirement of the ISO standard to monitor customer perception of services, coupled with the GCAA’s perspective of installing a culture of continuous improvement of Quality and Safety in our operations. The GCAA has now launched a Customer Perception Questionnaire. This form (QMSD 8M) is freely available on this website.

There have been a few changes to the original internal auditing team and it now consists of the Quality Manager (QM) and 11 Internal Auditors.
